Yorkie Puppy Delivery Across the USA and Canada
How your puppy actually travels, what it costs to each state and province, and the paperwork that has to be right before anyone leaves. Including the routes we will not take.
Every Yorkie puppy delivery we arrange keeps the puppy in the cabin or in a climate-controlled vehicle. We never ship a puppy in a cargo hold. Every one of our puppies travels either in the cabin with a human companion, or by climate-controlled ground transport with a driver who can stop and check on them.
We are in Lena, Louisiana (Rapides Parish, central LA). That shapes everything below: Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Oklahoma, Georgia and Tennessee are comfortable ground runs, and Louisiana families are welcome to collect in person for free. Anything beyond about a day’s drive goes by in-cabin flight nanny from Alexandria (AEX), Baton Rouge (BTR) or New Orleans (MSY).
The three ways a puppy travels
A Yorkie puppy delivery uses one of these three methods. Which one applies to you depends almost entirely on how far you are from central Louisiana.
You collect
Always the cheapest and least stressful for the puppy. You meet us, sign in person, and drive home. Free.
Flight nanny
A courier flies with your puppy in the aircraft cabin, in a carrier under the seat, and hands them to you at arrivals. Same-day, and the puppy is never alone.
Ground transport
Climate-controlled vehicle with scheduled comfort stops. Best for anywhere within about two days’ drive. Slower but very low stress.
We do not ship puppies as unaccompanied cargo. The USDA APHIS pet travel guidance is worth reading if you are comparing breeders. Temperature swings, long waits on the tarmac and rough handling make it a genuinely risky way to move a two-pound animal. If another breeder offers you a cheap cargo shipment, that saving is coming out of the puppy’s welfare.

More than twenty US states have “puppy lemon laws” giving buyers defined rights if a purchased dog turns out to be ill — typically a window of 7 to 21 days. Check your own state’s statute before you buy from anyone. Our 14-day money-back guarantee meets or exceeds the statutory minimum in most states, but your legal rights sit on top of our guarantee, not instead of it.
Hawaii and Alaska
These two states need saying plainly rather than burying in a table, because Yorkie puppy delivery works differently for both.
Hawaii is rabies-free and enforces the strictest animal import rules in the United States. Even the expedited 5-Day-Or-Less programme requires a rabies vaccination history, a specific blood titre test processed at an approved laboratory, and a waiting period measured in months before the animal may travel. A Yorkie puppy young enough to be leaving us cannot meet those requirements on any short timescale. We will discuss it honestly with you, but the realistic answer is that you should buy locally.
Alaska is feasible but expensive and weather-dependent. Winter routings are frequently disrupted, and we will not send a puppy into an itinerary with a high risk of an overnight delay. Summer is straightforward.
Yorkie puppy delivery to Canada: what the rules actually require
Cross-border Yorkie puppy delivery is the part most US breeders refuse to handle. We do handle it, and here is what it involves.
- The puppy must be at least 8 weeks old — we hold to 12 regardless
- A rabies vaccination certificate, or a veterinary letter documenting an age exemption
- A veterinary health certificate issued close to the travel date
- Import documentation appropriate to the circumstances of the crossing
- Microchip identification, which we arrange on request
Canadian Food Inspection Agency requirements for importing dogs have changed several times in recent years, and US rules on dogs entering the States changed too. We confirm the current requirements with CFIA for every single Canadian placement rather than working from memory. You should check the CFIA import requirements for pets yourself as well — and be sceptical of any breeder who tells you the paperwork is nothing to worry about.

What a Yorkie puppy delivery day actually looks like
A flight-nanny day, start to finish
Two days before: final veterinary check, health certificate issued, you receive the flight details and the nanny’s name and number.
Morning of: light breakfast only, three hours before departure. We send you a photo at handover.
In transit: the puppy is in a soft carrier under the seat in front of the nanny. Water at every opportunity. You get a message at boarding and at landing.
Arrivals: you meet the nanny at baggage claim with photo ID. You get the puppy, the folder of records, the food, and the blanket from the litter.
That evening: we text to check the puppy has eaten and settled. Your 14 days start today.
Preparing for arrival
The last stage of any Yorkie puppy delivery is the one you control. A calm first evening matters more than most people expect.
- Book your veterinarian for within 72 hours — this is required for the guarantee
- Set up a small, quiet space, not the run of the whole house
- Have the same food ready that we send
- Keep the first evening dull: no visitors, no party
- Offer food within two hours of arrival — toy puppies are prone to blood-sugar drops after travel
- Expect a disturbed first night. It passes.
Questions
Is flying safe for a Yorkie puppy?
In the cabin, with a person, yes — it is comparable to a long car journey in stress terms. In the cargo hold it is a different proposition entirely, which is why we do not do it. The risks in cargo are temperature, delays and handling, none of which a two-pound puppy tolerates well.
Can I meet the puppy before delivery?
Yes, and we encourage it. Visit in person if you can — collection from us is free. If you are too far to travel, we send fresh photographs of the puppy and its mother, and you can ask us anything by phone or email before you pay.
Who pays if a flight is cancelled?
We do. If a routing fails, we rebook and cover the difference. You are never asked for extra money mid-journey — that is a hallmark of the scams described here.
Do you charge a crate or insurance fee?
No. Your quote includes the carrier and everything else. If any breeder adds a crate or insurance fee after taking a deposit, stop and reconsider the whole transaction.
How soon can a puppy travel?
Not before 12 weeks with us, regardless of the legal minimum. Yorkshire Terrier puppies moved too young are prone to hypoglycaemia, and holding them the extra fortnight measurably reduces that risk.
Does the 14-day guarantee start on arrival or purchase?
On arrival. The clock starts the day the puppy is in your hands, not the day you paid.
