Meet Polar

Polar is a 13-week-old purebred male Yorkshire Terrier and the most outgoing puppy of his litter. He is first to the door when someone arrives, first to investigate anything new, and he plays hard before falling asleep mid-stride.

He has grown up in our living room in Lena, Louisiana, handled daily, and has never been anywhere but a busy family home.

He can travel now

At thirteen weeks Polar is past the twelve-week minimum we hold every puppy to, which means he is ready to go home immediately rather than waiting. The extra fortnight matters: Yorkshire Terrier puppies moved too young are prone to hypoglycaemia, and holding them measurably reduces that risk. Polar has already cleared that window.

What “purebred” does and does not tell you

Polar is bred to the AKC Yorkshire Terrier standard — correct structure, correct coat, and on track for the four to seven pound adult range we breed toward. Both his parents are Yorkshire Terriers.

Being straight with you about what that means: pedigree describes ancestry. It does not by itself guarantee health, and it says nothing at all about temperament. If you are buying a companion rather than a show or breeding prospect, the socialising Polar has had matters far more to your daily life than his paperwork does. We would rather you knew that than paid a premium for a word.

His coat, and what it will become

Polar is still carrying his puppy colouring. Like every Yorkshire Terrier he was born black and tan, and over the next one to three years that will clear to the classic blue and tan — steel blue from the back of the head down the tail, with golden tan on the head, chest and legs. He will not be the colour he is today. More on Yorkie size and coat here.

Who this purebred yorkie puppy suits

An active household that will enjoy his confidence and give him something to do. He suits a family with children aged around eight and up, or an owner who wants a dog with real personality rather than a lap ornament. He would be wasted in a quiet house where nothing happens.

Health records for this purebred yorkie puppy

Polar has been examined by a licensed veterinarian, with age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming current and documented. Records travel with him. Microchipping is available on request, at cost.

What comes with Polar

  • Veterinary examination certificate and vaccination record
  • Deworming history
  • Written 14-day money-back guarantee
  • Signed adoption agreement, sent before any deposit
  • Two weeks of the food he is already eating
  • A blanket carrying his littermates’ scent

Teacup Yorkies: what the word actually means

Families searching for a purebred yorkie puppy often search for teacup Yorkies in the same breath, so it is worth being direct about the term.

Teacup is not a recognised size

No kennel club anywhere recognises teacup Yorkies as a classification. The Yorkshire Terrier sits in the Toy Group, and the breed standard places an adult at up to seven pounds. Anything marketed as a teacup is simply a small Yorkshire Terrier with a premium attached to the word.

Why the label costs buyers money

Dogs sold as teacup Yorkies routinely carry several hundred dollars of markup, and extreme miniaturisation raises the risk of hypoglycaemia, dental crowding, fragile bones and anaesthetic complications. We set out those risks in full here.

Where Polar sits

He is not bred or sold as one of the teacup Yorkies you will see advertised elsewhere. He is a properly proportioned toy-group dog, and we do not charge a premium for the word.

Yorkshire Terrier puppies for sale: what to check before you buy

Whether you choose Polar or buy elsewhere, the same checks apply to any Yorkshire Terrier puppies for sale you are considering.

Ask for photographs of that exact puppy

Anyone advertising Yorkshire Terrier puppies for sale should be able to send you fresh photographs of the specific puppy on request. Stock photography lifted from another website is the single clearest warning sign there is.

Ask what the paperwork covers

Genuine Yorkshire Terrier puppies for sale come with a veterinary examination certificate, a vaccination record and a written agreement. Read the guarantee before you pay a deposit, not after. Our guide to spotting a real breeder covers the rest.

Ask how delivery is quoted

Transport for Yorkshire Terrier puppies for sale should be quoted in writing up front. Costs that appear after a deposit are the most common way buyers lose money.

Every purebred yorkie puppy we place leaves with the same paperwork and the same written guarantee.

What a purebred Yorkie puppy does and does not guarantee

A purebred Yorkie puppy means both parents are Yorkshire Terriers and the line breeds true to the standard: correct structure, correct coat, four to seven pounds at maturity.

Here is what it does not mean. Pedigree describes ancestry, not health — a purebred dog can still inherit luxating patella, a liver shunt or dental crowding. It also says nothing whatsoever about temperament, which is shaped far more by what happened between weeks three and twelve than by any registry document.

If you are buying a companion rather than a show or breeding prospect, the socialising Polar has had will affect your daily life far more than his paperwork will. We would rather tell you that than charge you extra for a word.

What purebred does usefully give you is predictability of size and coat, which matters when you are planning for grooming costs and living space.
