Meet Vic and Vicky

Vic and Vicky are 11-week-old Yorkshire Terrier littermates — one male, one female — handled daily since their first week.

Vic

Vic is the bolder of the two. He investigates first, recovers from surprises quickly, and settles well after activity.

Vicky

Vicky watches her brother do something first, then follows. She is the more careful of the pair and takes a little longer to warm to strangers.

Before you take a Yorkie puppy pair: the honest version

Taking a bonded Yorkie puppy pair is appealing and we understand why. It is also the decision people most often regret, so we would rather talk you through it properly than simply sell you both.

What littermate syndrome actually is

Littermates raised together can bond so strongly with each other that they struggle to bond with you. It shows up as difficulty training either one alone, distress when they are separated even briefly, and slower socialisation with people. Trainers refer to it as littermate syndrome, which we have written about in full here. How common it is remains debated, but the practical risk is real enough that most professional trainers advise against taking two puppies at once unless you are prepared for the extra work.

What that extra work actually looks like

  • Separate training sessions, every day, from the first week
  • Separate walks at least some of the time
  • Separate sleeping arrangements — two crates, not one
  • Individual time with each puppy, daily
  • Two of everything: vet bills, grooming, food, insurance

Done properly, a Yorkie puppy pair is wonderful and they will keep each other company while you are out. Done casually, you end up with two dogs who are excellent at being dogs together and poor at being anyone’s companion.

You can take just one

Vic and Vicky are listed as a Yorkie puppy pair but they are not sold as a package. Either one is available on their own at $680, and we will not push you toward two. If you tell us your household we will give you a straight recommendation, including if that recommendation is one puppy rather than two.

Teacup Yorkies: what the word actually means

Families searching for a Yorkie puppy pair often search for teacup Yorkies in the same breath, so it is worth being direct about the term.

Teacup is not a recognised size

No kennel club anywhere recognises teacup Yorkies as a classification. The Yorkshire Terrier sits in the Toy Group, and the breed standard places an adult at up to seven pounds. Anything marketed as a teacup is simply a small Yorkshire Terrier with a premium attached to the word.

Why the label costs buyers money

Dogs sold as teacup Yorkies routinely carry several hundred dollars of markup, and extreme miniaturisation raises the risk of hypoglycaemia, dental crowding, fragile bones and anaesthetic complications. We set out those risks in full here.

Where Vic and Vicky sit

Neither is bred or sold as one of the teacup Yorkies you will see advertised elsewhere. They are properly proportioned toy-group dogs, and we do not charge a premium for the word.

Yorkshire Terrier puppies for sale: what to check before you buy

Whether you take this Yorkie puppy pair or buy elsewhere, the same checks apply to any Yorkshire Terrier puppies for sale you are considering.

Ask for photographs of that exact puppy

Anyone advertising Yorkshire Terrier puppies for sale should be able to send you fresh photographs of the specific puppy on request. Stock photography lifted from another website is the single clearest warning sign there is.

Ask what the paperwork covers

Genuine Yorkshire Terrier puppies for sale come with a veterinary examination certificate, a vaccination record and a written agreement. Read the guarantee before you pay a deposit, not after. Our guide to spotting a real breeder covers the rest.

Ask how delivery is quoted

Transport for Yorkshire Terrier puppies for sale should be quoted in writing up front. Costs that appear after a deposit are the most common way buyers lose money.

Who they suit

A pair suits an experienced owner, or a household with enough time to train them as individuals. A single one of them suits almost anybody — a first-time owner, a couple, or a family with children aged around eight and up.

Health and documentation

Both have been examined by a licensed veterinarian, with age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming current and documented. Records travel with each puppy. Neither will be released before twelve weeks. Microchipping is available on request, at cost.

What comes with each puppy

  • Veterinary examination certificate and vaccination record
  • Deworming history
  • Written 14-day money-back guarantee
  • Signed adoption agreement, sent before any deposit
  • Two weeks of their current food
  • A blanket carrying their littermates’ scent
